Cosco’s MASS WITS (69K BLT 1988/JAPAN LDT 9971) changed hands within China for $4.8 mill, having a scrap value of about $4 mill. Modern supramax GL PRIMERA (59K BLT 2007 TSUNEISHI ZHOUSAN/CHINA CR 4X30T) found Greek buyers who agreed to pay $19.5 mill basis her special & dry-docking surveys due in October.
The usual suspects from Bangladesh are reported to have committed ID INTEGRITY (45K BLT 1996 TSUNEISHI/JAPAN CR 4X30T) for a firm $10.5 mill in an off- market deal, exact price as end June’s sale of FURIA R (46K BLT 1996 MITSUI/JAPAN), which makes us wonder if this is an old sale. Handymax IKAN SELANGAT (37.5K BLT 1984 IHI/JAPAN CR 4X25T LDT 7757) is sold to Chinese buyers for the price of $2.8 mill basis special & dry-docking surveys due, equivalent to $365 per lt.
Vietnamese buyers have acquired the three-generators, box-shaped handy GLOBAL ACE (23.5K BLT 1996 MITSUBISHI/JAPAN CR 3X30T NOT-LOG FITTED) for the soft price of $5.7-$5.8 mill. Three ice strengthened single-deck sisters ALANA, GRETA & DANIA (5K BLT 1999/99/00 HOLLAND, GEARLESS, BOX HOLD) were sold en bloc for Euro 1.8 mill each to undisclosed interests.
Container Ships
On the container/mpp front Chinese buyers have snapped two laid-up nineties vintage gearless feeders; NORTHERN TRUST (2480 TEUS BLT 1993/S. KOREA LDT 13000) went for the scrap related level of $6 mill as-is in Batam-Indonesia, while RED STRENGTH (2635 TEUS BLT 1995/JAPAN) for $6.2 mill as-is Hong Kong.
Geared feeder CONTI SEATTLE (2109 TEUS BLT 1997/S. KOREA CR 4X40T) was snapped by Greek buyers for $5.5-$6 mill, as well as the slightly smaller unit OCEAN TRADER I (1608 TEUS BLT 1996/GERMANY CR 3X40T) for $2.8-$3 mill basis as-is Singapore.
Gearless sisters ASTA RICKMERS & JOCK RICKMERS (1216 TEUS BLT 2001 HANJIN/S. KOREA) were committed to undisclosed buyers for $5.9 mill each. Clients of Hamburg Finance acquired CLOU OCEAN (1145 TEUS BLT 1998/TURKEY CR 3X40T) for $5.3 mill while Philipino buyers purchased mpp THOR LIBRA (5K BLT 1994/DEN CR 2X50T) for $3 mill.
Tankers
In the Tanker segment, Greek buyers have paid $43 mill for hi-spec LR2 unit WHITE STARS delivering ex-yard Samsung in South Korea this month. At an auction in Busan, South Korea, chemical sisters SAMHO TOPAZ & SAMHO AMBER (5.6K BLT 2008 SAMHO/S. KOREA) attracted $7.45 & $8.4 mill respectively.
Demolition
In the demolition sector, this week’s subcontinent’s market is bullish, mainly due to India’s & Bangladesh’ performance. On the other hand, Pakistan scrap-yards are reaching their maximum capacity and prices are softening there. Rates are currently ranging between $400-$420 for bulkers, $430-$440 for tankers & $420-$430 for container vessels.
