Azerbaijan's Baku port is set to handle 6 million tons of cargo in 2016
BAKU International Sea Trade Port in Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea transhipped 13,307 TEU in 2015, an increase of 118 per cent compared with 2013.
Speaking at a conference on the topic of, "Baku International Sea Trade Port: yesterday, today, tomorrow", the port's director general Taleh Ziyadov said: "The volume of transit cargos transhipped by the port's main cargo terminal was 46 per cent of the total freight traffic in 2015, and this figure was two per cent in 2014."
Currently 85 per cent of cargo handled by the port is transit cargo, with the port transhipping three million tons of cargo in 2015.
Transshipment volume is expected to hit six million tons this year, reported Azerbaijani news agency.
