China's cross-strait container shipping index on test run in Xiamen
THE Taiwan Strait Containerised Freight Index (TWFI) made and published jointly by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and Xiamen Shipping Exchange has started trial operation on April 2, Xinhua reports.
TWFI will post the index every Wednesday afternoon for the shipping rates on three typical lines respectively from north, east and southeast China to Taiwan and their return services. The index is based on the rate on January 22, which is set as 1,000 point.
The latest index can be found on the official website of Shanghai Shipping Exchange or Xiamen Shipping Exchange.
TWFI is expected to reflect supply and demand of cross-strait container shipping, and be a reference for the government and the market in making their decisions. The index is also said to facilitate trade between the mainland and Taiwan.
Shanghai Shipping Exchange has published the China Containerised Freight Index (CCFI), China Coastal Bulk Freight Index (CBFI), China Import Dry Bulk Freight Index (CDFI) and China Import Crude Oil Tanker Freight Index (CTFI) since 1998, which has developed considerable influence in the domestic and overseas market.
Xiamen Shipping Exchange is the fifth of such facilities set up by government and is under Xiamen Port Administration Bureau. It was founded in June 2012.
