MARKET NEWS/ RUMOURS
The BDI is going south for one more week, standing at 1002 today, just two points away from breaking the psychological barrier of 1000 mark. We were expecting that this sharp decline over the past few weeks would discourage potential buying interest, however we picked up numerous transactions for one more week, illustrating that buyers are keeping the faith. Asset values remain firm, very often beyond the budget of many prospective buyers out there.
Bulkers:
Three capes and one panamax changed hands this week as players are taking position for potential market’s upside; Clients of Vista of Ukraine are said to be behind the purchase of caper LIAN FU STAR (172K BLT 1997 NKK/JAPAN) for $18.5 mill, while clients of N.G. Moundreas of Greece have purchased en bloc cape sisters PACIFIC CHALLENGER & PACIFIC ENTERPRISE (149K BLT 1995/1996 DALIAN/CHINA) for $13 mill each, a level in line with current market. Greek controlled panamax MARIA (76K BLT 2003 TSUNEISHI/JAPAN) has achieved the price of $22 mill from clients of Augustea of Italy, in line with the mid-March sale of same age but Korean built unit ASPENDOS (74K BLT 2003 HYUNDAI/S. KOREA) for $21.75 mill to Greeks. In an en bloc deal, supramax duo TANAGER BULKER & TESS BULKER (57K BLT TSUNEISHI CEBU/PHILIPPINES CR 4X30T) changed hands within Denmark (hearing to clients of ID Shipping) for $29.2 mill each. Pacific Carriers controlled handymax ALAM MESRA (46K BLT 2000 MITSUI/JAPAN CR 4X30T) has commanded the solid price of $14.5 mill by Bangladeshi buyers.
