Turkey's parliament voted Monday to extend by a year its navy's involvement in an international anti-piracy mission off Somalia, the Anatolia news agency reported, cited by AFP.
The Turkish navy has been part of the mission since February 2009, tasked with escorting commercial shipping and using force if necessary to seize ships operated by pirates. Several countries including the United States, Britain, France, Japan, China, Germany, India and Russia have sent warships to guard shipping on the busy maritime route to the Red Sea.
