THE first World Crane Championships is being sponsored by Cargotec unit Hiab, a provider of on-road load handling equipment, with the finals being held at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, England on April 14-16.
This comes after qualification rounds have been taking place over the past year in 11 different countries to find finalists from across the globe.
Those competing will manoeuvre a HIAB X-HiPro 192 through a series of obstacles, trying to beat a time set by the anonymous crane pro "Eric," the crane manufacturer's very own "The Stig," a la "Top Gear" British TV car show, with the final driver taking away a EUR25,000 (US$28,402) prize.
"To accurately and swiftly operate a crane is no mean feat, and is only acquired over years of experience," said senior vice president, sales and markets, Carl Gustaf Goransson.
