Korean is sixth candidate to run for IMO’s top job
Lim Ki-tack, president of the Busan Port Authority (BPA), has registered to become the next IMO secretary general joining runners and riders from the Netherlands, Cyprus, the Philippines, Kenya, and Russia.
Kim becomes the second Korean to run for the United Nations’ maritime position following Chae I-sik’s failed bid in 2011.
“Should Korea produce the IMO secretary general, the status of the nation’s shipping and shipbuilding industries will be able to take a leap forward,” Lim said.
