THE Port of Valencia handled five million TEU from January to November, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.86 per cent. Over this period, the three ports under the control of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) moved 74.78 million tons of cargo, up 6.49 per cent.
Of the five million containers, 3,780,143 were full (up 4.41 per cent) and 1,238,463 were empty (+10.55 per cent). Of the full boxes, 876,000 were cargo or export (+5.43 per cent) and 712,561 were unloading or importing (+5.36 per cent), reported Port Technology International.
Between January and November, the APV welcomed 7,313 vessels, up 3.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Regarding the geographical areas with which Valencia port's clients work, the Mediterranean and Black Sea areas stand out with a total of 21.37 million tons, an increase of 7.56 per cent. This is followed by other Spanish ports with a traffic of 9.4 million tons and an increase of 3.32 per cent and Far East, with 8.85 million tons and a decrease of 0.69 per cent.
By countries, the US is consolidating during this year as Valencia port's first trading partner, with whose ports 7.3 million tons have been imported and exported (23.48 per cent more). It is followed by China with 5.9 (-0.74 per cent), Italy with 5.8 million tons (+ 1.38 per cent) and Turkey, 5.4 million tons (+ 41.3 per cent).
