THIRTY-YEAR veteran in the aviation and air cargo industries John Dietrich has taken over as chief executive of Atlas Air Worldwide.
The promotion, first announced in July, sees Mr Dietrich take over from William Flynn, who retires from the position after a 13-year tenure and will move over to become chairman of the board.
Mr Dietrich, who is also president of the company, previously held the role of chief operating officer and executive vice president. He has been with the company for more than 20 years, according to London's Air Cargo News.
The company said that the appointments are the 'culmination of a comprehensive succession process led by the board to ensure strong leadership continuity as the company continues to advance its strategic growth agenda'.
At the time of the announcement, Mr Flynn said: 'For over two decades, John has had an unparalleled commitment to this company and our employees. I look forward to working with John, my fellow board members, and the Senior Leadership Team as we continue executing our strategic growth agenda to create long-term value for our customers, shareholders and employees.'
