    TOUMEN, a port in Zhejiang province's Linhai city, has started building its first cargo handling terminal of 20,000 tonnes

    TOUMEN, a port in Zhejiang province's Linhai city, has started building its first cargo handling terminal of 20,000 tonnes that can accommodate 50,000-tonne ships, Xinhua reports.

    Toumen port will have a quay length of 28.7 kilometres. According to the development plan, 54 berths of 50,000 to 20,000 tonnes will be built at Toumen Island's north port area, and 30 of 10,000 tonnes and over will be built at the south, generating a collective handling capacity of 161 million tonnes.

    The first phase project consists of a terminal, entailing an investment of CNY128.2 million (US$20.66 billion), and is scheduled to be finished in 2014.

    On the same day, Zhejiang Transportation Investment Group investor in the port, signed a deal with Ningbo Port Group on cooperating on the operation of Toumen port.
