Yantian Port announces a RMB 3.788 billion investment in Suzhou's Zhangjiagang District to enhance inland waterway infrastructure and logistics.
Shenzhen Yantian Port Co., Ltd. (stock code: 000088; stock abbreviation: Yantian Port) has released an external investment announcement detailing a significant strategic commitment to inland waterway infrastructure. At its Ninth Board of Directors' Fourth Meeting, convened on October 10, the company reviewed and approved a proposal to invest in the Phase I construction of the Shenzhen-Zhangjiagang Port Terminal within the Metallurgical Industrial Park operation zone of Suzhou Port's Zhangjiagang District. The project will be executed through Yantian Port's wholly-owned subsidiary, Shenzhen-Zhangjiagang Port (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., with a total planned investment of approximately RMB 3.788 billion. The proposal remains subject to shareholder approval and constitutes neither a related-party transaction nor a material asset restructuring.
According to the announcement, Shenzhen-Zhangjiagang Port (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. was established in March 2024 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yantian Port. The entity currently focuses on preliminary project approvals and pre-construction filings and has not yet commenced substantive operations. Total project investment stands at RMB 3,788.40 million, of which 40 percent - amounting to RMB 1,515.36 million - will be contributed as registered capital through shareholder capital injections into Shenzhen-Zhangjiagang Port. The remaining funds are planned to be secured through bank loans and other financing instruments. The subsidiary's registered capital will subsequently be increased to a maximum of RMB 1,515.36 million, with the feasibility of introducing strategic investors to be assessed at an appropriate stage in alignment with construction progress.
The project is positioned as a modern river-sea intermodal hub integrating port loading and unloading, logistics and warehousing, commercial services, and multimodal transport. Preliminary planning documents indicate that Phase I will comprise one 200,000-tonne berth, one 50,000-tonne berth, and two 10,000-tonne dry bulk berths, with a combined shoreline length of 952 metres and a designed annual throughput capacity of 40 million tonnes. Designated a key port project within Zhangjiagang, the development had already commenced preliminary survey work - including hydrological testing - by the end of 2023.
Yantian Port has described the investment as a pivotal step in executing its Yangtze River strategy and advancing a broader corporate transformation: shifting from single-node port investment toward control of corridor resources, and from standalone port operations toward an integrated basin-wide ecosystem approach. Upon completion, the project will connect Shenzhen's coastal port assets with Yangtze River inland shipping resources, unlocking port-to-port network synergies, elevating supply chain operational efficiency, expanding throughput capacity, and reinforcing the logistics network across the Yangtze River basin - further strengthening Yantian Port's competitive position within the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Building on its listed-company platform, Yantian Port has pursued systematic investment along the Yangtze River corridor since the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan period, establishing a portfolio that includes Huangshi New Port, Changde Port, and Phase II of Jinshi Port. The Zhangjiagang Shenzhen-Zhangjiagang Port project represents the company's latest and most consequential placement in this long-term strategy, advancing its commitment to a comprehensive and cohesive port network across the Yangtze River basin.
