The wreck removal operation of the 'Gulfem Kalkavan' commenced at the end of July 2018. The entire operation was expected to be completed in the beginning of September 2018. The ship had grounded at the Cape Tuzla shipyard breakwater in bad weather, in 40 50 N 29 15 E, on Feb 2, 2015. It suffered serious damage at the starboard side shell plating, water ingress and capsized. The port master demanded a wreck removal.
