The Orient Express Corinthian completes propulsion tests, showcasing its innovative design and eco-friendly technology as it prepares for its 2026 launch.

The sailing passenger ship Orient Express Corinthian recently completed its propulsion tests.

As the Accor Group's first cruise investment, the Orient Express Corinthian has successfully passed another critical phase in its construction process at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard by completing its propulsion tests. The 220-meter-long giant sailing vessel demonstrated a performance that will be noted in the literature for a ship of its size, managing to exceed the targeted speed limits using only wind energy.

During the sea trials that began in December, the ship's revolutionary 'Solid Sail' system was tested. The total sail area of 4,500 square meters, mounted on three 69-meter carbon fiber masts, allowed the ship to reach a speed of 12 knots without engine assistance in 20-knot wind conditions. Shipyard officials emphasized that this efficiency is a first for a vessel with a gross tonnage of 25,200 tons, and it is anticipated that the ship's operational speed could reach up to 17 knots. Designed with environmentally friendly engineering, the Corinthian stands out not only for its sailing power but also for its LNG-fueled engine.

The architectural structure of the ship combines aesthetics with technology. The balustrade-equipped masts, which can rotate 360 degrees and tilt up to 70 degrees for low bridge passages, provide the ship with high maneuverability. Inside, a design philosophy that pushes the boundaries of the 'ultra-luxury' segment prevails. The ship will host a total of 54 suites with a passenger capacity of 110, featuring living spaces ranging from 485 to 2,500 square meters, five restaurants, a spa center, and a retractable marina that opens directly to the sea.

As the most tangible fruit of the 'Eoseas' concept developed by Chantiers de l'Atlantique since 2009, the Orient Express Corinthian continues its outfitting process after its launch in June 2025. The Accor Group's first move in the cruise sector is planned to be delivered and enter service in May 2026. This giant sailing vessel appears to be a candidate to shift the balance in a market that includes established players like Wind Star and Club Med, as one of the largest and most modern sailing passenger ships in the world.
