The U.S. military has destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in retaliation for recent missile attacks on a Navy warship by the IRGC.
The U.S. military announced that it has destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers following ballistic missile attacks carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on a U.S. Navy warship in the last two days. The U.S. military destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers early today.
In a statement released on the X platform, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated, 'In response to Iran's recent unsuccessful attacks, CENTCOM has destroyed oil tankers belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.'
The statement indicated that the tankers targeted included the Kafiz, Sharminar, Horizon 1, and Risco in the Gulf of Oman, as well as the tanker named Deriya near Hark Island.
CENTCOM reported that the crews of the aforementioned tankers were instructed to evacuate their vessels before they were targeted and neutralized.
The statement also noted that the U.S. warship successfully avoided Iranian attacks and continued its patrols in territorial waters, with no injuries reported among U.S. personnel.
The U.S. military had begun strikes against Iranian targets last Tuesday following recent attacks by Iran on maritime shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
