United Global Ro-Ro expands its fleet with two new PCTC vessels, enhancing capacity to 44,461 CEU and annual vehicle transport to over 700,000.
United Global Ro-Ro (UGR) has increased its total carrying capacity per voyage to 44,461 CEU and its vehicle carrying capacity to over 700,000 annually with the addition of two new PCTC vessels to its fleet. This capacity indicates an area equivalent to approximately 1,000 football fields when vehicles are parked side by side.
Izmir, Turkey - October 14, 2026: United Global Ro-Ro (UGR), a joint venture between Noatum Maritime, part of AD Ports Group, and Erkport, has strengthened its operations by adding two new Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) vessels to its fleet. The new vessels, named UGR Aqaba and UGR Safaga, have significantly increased UGR's operational strength in Ro-Ro transportation while also expanding its total carrying capacity.
The new vessels increase UGR's vehicle carrying capacity by approximately 22%, raising the fleet's total capacity from 36,393 CEU (car equivalent units) to 44,461 CEU. With this additional capacity, UGR can transport over 100,000 extra vehicles annually, bringing its annual vehicle carrying capacity to over 700,000. This capacity corresponds to an area equivalent to about 1,000 football fields when vehicles are parked side by side.
The new vessels also enhance operational strength across different cargo categories.
The newly added vessels can serve a wide range of cargo, primarily including passenger and light commercial vehicles. The ships also facilitate the transportation of buses, trailers, tractor-trailer combinations, excavators, loaders, tracked construction machinery, and motorcycles, as well as static and project cargo transported on MAFI trailers.
The capability to carry heavy and specialized cargo such as mobile cranes, crane trucks, and power transformers further strengthens UGR's competencies not only in automotive logistics but also in project and heavy cargo transportation. The new vessels, which comply with low sulfur emission regulations, also support UGR's ongoing fleet investments aimed at enhancing environmental performance.
Focused services with purpose-built vessel types.
The UGR fleet includes Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC), Container/Roll-on Roll-off (CON-RO), Pure Car Carriers (PCC), and Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) Cargo vessels. This diversified fleet structure allows UGR to transport a wide range of cargo.
The new PCTC vessels will play a particularly significant role in increasing UGR's vehicle logistics capacity. UGR plans to continue its growth with additional vessels expected to join the fleet by the end of the year and aims to further increase both fleet size and total carrying capacity with new additions planned for 2027.
“With every new step we take, we are increasing our carrying capacity and strengthening our operational capabilities.”
Commenting on the new vessels added to the fleet, UGR CEO Tolga Emrah Gezgin stated:
“As UGR, we operate in over 20 countries and 30 ports with our extensive network covering Europe, the Mediterranean, the Gulf region, North Africa, the Far East, and South Asia. In addition to vehicle transportation from the Far East to Europe and the Middle East, we are creating a strong and bidirectional logistics network by delivering vehicles produced in Europe and Turkey to Middle Eastern markets. This structure enables us to work with the world's leading automotive manufacturers.
The addition of UGR Aqaba and UGR Safaga represents another significant step in the development of our fleet. Beyond increasing our carrying capacity, these vessels provide us with greater flexibility in responding to the changing logistics needs in automotive, heavy cargo, and project cargo transportation. We will continue to invest in our fleet and expand our global network to meet the evolving needs of our customers and the markets we serve.”
