Turkey notified a unified command center of the attack on the ship, the 26 Agustos, and the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Shoup was dispatched to the vessel as its crew sought refuge in a machinery room, the army said in a statement released today.. The pirates were unable to take control of the ship, owned by Turkish firm Nemtas Denizcilik, and fled on small boats after warning shots were fired from a helicopter, the army said.
