At least three ships stranded when a six-meter high tsunami hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi after an earthquake with a strength of 7.5-7.7 on Sep 28, 2018. The container ship 'Merantus Kendari 1' ran aground when big waves hit it off the city of Palu. Later it could be freed again and moved away from the coast further into the bay. It was unclear whether the ship has lost the anchor as it either drifted or moved slowly around the bay. The 'Sabuk Nusantara 39' grounded after it broke lose from its moorings from its dock. Another freight ship was also pushed aground but also could be freed and dropped anchor. There was no information about damage to any of the ships.
