YALOVA | The Chamber of Marine Engineers of TMMOB and the Yalova Branch of the Chamber of Marine Engineers issued a joint press release regarding the armed attack on a marine engineer serving as the production manager at Cemre Shipyard located in Altınova, Yalova. The statement emphasized that the incident cannot be regarded merely as an individual criminal case, highlighting the alarming level of violence in working life.
In the statement made by the Chamber, it was noted that the attack carried out by an individual working for a subcontractor company was condemned in the strongest terms, and urgent wishes for recovery were expressed for the injured colleague.
The statement included the following: 'No disagreement in working life, no material dispute can justify the use of weapons and endangering a person's life.'

The insufficient implementation of institutional criteria in the selection of subcontractor companies that collaborate in shipyards and construction sites leads to deficiencies in oversight and accountability on-site; these deficiencies sometimes pave the way for such grave outcomes. It is essential for main contractors to evaluate the institutional competence, employment policies, and on-site discipline of the companies they work with using transparent and consistent criteria; the safety of employees must be adopted as a priority that cannot be compromised under any circumstances.
Our Chamber views the ability of our colleagues to work in a safe and respectable environment on-site as a fundamental right. We demand that all aspects of the incident be clarified, that those responsible be held accountable before justice, and that all sector stakeholders take the necessary administrative and legal measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.

On July 30, at Cemre-1 Shipyard in Altınova district of Yalova, an incident occurred where, according to allegations, a dispute between engineer M.A., who works for a subcontractor, and production manager Engin Y. escalated into an armed attack. Engin Y. was injured by multiple bullets that struck his legs and was taken to the hospital, where it was reported that his life was not in danger. An investigation has been initiated against the suspect who fled the scene.
