On Aug 7, the 'Tallink 5' had suffered the same fate in the port of Guanta. A lack of maintenance was thought to have caused the wreck of the 'Rosa Eugenia'. Previously, in 2016, the 'Carmen Ernestina' capsized at the company's terminal in Puerto La Cruz. The accidents left only the 'Virgen del Valle II' operative. The 'Rosa Eugenia' was abandoned for two years. Conferry is currently owned by the Venezuelan State after its expropriation in 2011.
