The Oman-flagged tanker 'QENDIL' was rescued after being stranded for 12 days near Bozcaada due to a storm on January 4.
The empty crude oil tanker 'QENDIL,' flying the flag of Oman, ran aground on January 4 due to a southwesterly storm off the coast of the Bozcaada district in Çanakkale. It was successfully rescued 12 days later through the operation of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM) teams.
While en route from Aliağa to Yalova, the 249-meter-long tanker ran aground in the Bozcaada Anchorage Area, specifically at the Polente location, due to adverse weather conditions. Many KEGM units were dispatched to the area for the operation, and emergency response vessels, along with salvage tugboats, participated in the effort.
As a result of extensive rescue efforts, the tanker was successfully floated and rescued from its position. During the operation, necessary precautions were taken to prevent any harm to maritime traffic and the marine environment.
