The 'Front Hataka' suffered a fire in the engine room on Aug 5, 2018, at 3 a.m. west of Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, south of Tokyo Bay. The tanker was waiting to dock at Chiba since its arrival from Ju'aymah on Aug 4, being fully loaded with a cargo of crude oil. There was no risk of the fire spreading to cargo tanks. The fire was extinguished by 9 a.m. The tanker was moved out to sea in the course of the operation to a position southeast of southernmost Chiba with three tugs at her side, moving in southeast direction at 1,5 knots speed. The 25 crew members, all Indian nationalities, were not injured.
