Tanker grounded off Kilifi
The "Theresa Arctic" ran aground on reefs off Kilifi port north of Mombasa in the afternoon of June 20, 2017. The ship got stuck in position 03 39S 039 53E. It was loaded with 27500 tons of vegetable oil and was en route from Port Klang to Mombasa. On June 26, the vessel was still aground, the salvage company Smit Salvage and local company Alpha Logistics contracted to refloat the ship. Four tugs, the "Mt Duma 2", "Mt Simba 3", "Mt Kiboko 2" and "Mt Nyangumi 2", were already deployed, another one was keeping the tanker stable in its position, but lightering of the cargo was required first. A ship for this purpose was called from Mozambique. Salvage target was June 28. The crew remained on board.
