SYRIAN President Ahmed al-Sharaa met with CMA CGM's regional director Joseph Dakak in Damascus to mark the signing of a 30-year contract to develop and operate the port of Latakia, reports Le Monde. 'We are pleased today to announce the signing of an investment and management contract for the port of Latakia for the next 30 years,' said Mr Dakak.

The contract marks a significant step in strengthening the French shipping giant's presence in the eastern Mediterranean.

'Within the framework of this contract, we committed to modernizing the port, expanding it and deepening its basin, so that it can accommodate larger ships and handle all the expected quantities of goods anticipated to arrive in Syria in the coming years,' said Mr Dakak.
