South Korea: STX Launches Ultramodern LNG Carrier VELIKIY NOVGOROD

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd launched, Jan. 15th, an ultramodern LNG carrier VELIKIY NOVGOROD ordered by Sovcomflot

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd launched, Jan. 15th, an ultramodern LNG carrier VELIKIY NOVGOROD ordered by Sovcomflot (SCF OJSC).

The vessel comes as the first of two ordered by Sovcomflot from STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. Delivery of the Veliky Novgorod is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2013, with the second vessel to follow in 2014.

These state-of-the-art Atlantic-max class gas carriers (tonnage approx. 170,000 m3, Ice class 2) come with a unique design and technology that allows them to operate in harsh climatic conditions and subzero temperatures, meaning they can transport gas from all existing LNG terminals all year round.

Veliky Novgorod incorporates all the latest requirements in terms of environmental protection, energy efficiency, crew accommodation and working conditions as well as vessel safety.

The multifunctionality of this project is proven by the ability to operate the proposed ships between almost all existing LNG terminals, including the possibility to offer year-round gas exports from Russia’s first LNG project – Sakhalin-2, and in the future – from the Shtokman LNG project terminal.
