Istanbul faces significant transport disruptions as heavy snowfall leads to ferry cancellations, following meteorological alerts.
Following warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), snowfall that began in Istanbul on the evening of January 17 intensified this morning (January 19).
The snow caused disruptions in transportation at many points. In Sultangazi, many İETT vehicles were seen stranded and unable to move.
On Yenibosna Yıldırım Beyazıt Street, approximately 5 kilometers of vehicle congestion formed. In the Sefaköy Tepeüstü area, many vehicles were stuck on the road, and one car skidded and collided with another vehicle.
In Üsküdar, some İETT buses were also stranded due to breakdowns and the snowfall.
Meanwhile, City Lines Inc., a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), announced that the following ferry services have been canceled due to adverse weather conditions:
- The Bostancı-Moda-Karaköy-Kabataş line services will not stop at Moda.
- The Çengelköy-Kuzguncuk-Beşiktaş-Kabataş line services will not stop at Kuzguncuk.
