An engine issue caused the 'Federal Rideau' on July 22, 2018, to hit a ship arrester in the flight locks in the Welland Canal. She couldn't slow as quickly as it would have otherwise when entering Lock 5 East and contacted the ship arrester which kept the ship in place. The arrester had to be replaced after the incident. Other ships were delayed as the vessel had to be inspected before being authorized to move through the canal.
