Saudi Arabia has requested that no fees or passage restrictions be applied in the Strait of Hormuz. It also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.
The Saudi Arabian Cabinet stated that maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz should return to the situation prior to February 28, when the United States and Israel initiated their war against Iran.
According to a news report dated September 29 and based on the Saudi official news agency SPA, the council, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, called for the preservation of freedom of navigation in critical maritime routes.
The council urged that no fees or restrictions be imposed on passages through the Strait of Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
The statement indicated that the use of these waterways as a tool for pressure and threats was rejected.
The Cabinet welcomed the United Nations Security Council's condemnation of attacks by Iran-backed Houthis against Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels.
The council noted that these attacks in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb are a significant concern.
