SOUTH Korea's Incheon Port Authority (IPA) saw its container throughput rise by 13

SOUTH Korea's Incheon Port Authority (IPA) saw its container throughput rise by 13.5 per cent in 2017 to reach 3.04 million TEU, up from 2.68 million TEU in 2016.

The port said that last year's result marked the best performance in its history. The volume of containers handled has enabled the port to move up to 47th place in the global rankings. The port's goal is to become one of the world's top 30 port by handling four million TEU annually by 2025, reported Rotterdam's World Maritimes News.

'We will sail more powerfully in order to achieve the 2020 target of 3.5 million TEU through continuous marketing on container volume and attracting sea routes,' IPA CEO Nam Bong Hyeon was quoted as saying.

The port now offers 49 sea routes, representing almost double the number of routes it provided in 2005 when IPA was established with 26 sea routes.
