Russia's container market grew 7.1% to 3.8 million TEU in H1 2026, driven by strong imports and record monthly traffic in June.
Russia's container market rose 7.1 per cent year on year to 3.8 million TEU in the first half of 2026, reported Saint Petersburg's PortNews, citing Delo Group research.
Container traffic volumes slightly exceeded the record 2024 levels, with June reaching 668,000 TEU, marking the highest monthly figure in 15 years and an increase of 19 per cent from June 2025.
Imports drove growth, with Far Eastern ports handling 621,000 TEU, representing a 38 per cent increase. Kaliningrad ports saw imports double to 37,000 TEU, while land border crossings with Asia accounted for 361,000 TEU, up 25 per cent.
Coastal services on the Saint Petersburg-Kaliningrad route added 108,000 TEU, a significant 71 per cent rise. Transit cargo also expanded, reaching 486,000 TEU, up 13 per cent.
Exports remained stable at 992,000 TEU, while domestic shipments fell by 2.7 per cent to 593,000 TEU. Delo Group's methodology includes loaded container volumes in foreign trade, transit, and domestic rail shipments.
FESCO, part of Rosatom, earlier estimated Russia's container market at 3.47 million TEU in January-June, reflecting a 6 per cent year-on-year increase.
