ROYAL Caribbean International has chosen Optimarin's ballast water treatment system (BWTS) Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) for retrofit to three vessels, reports London's Vessel Performance Optimisation. OBS is a UV-based BWTS that has type approval from the IMO and the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The systems are modular enabling easy retrofit to any vessel.
OBS has so far been retrofitted to Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas and is due for installation on Grandeur of the Seas in the first quarter of 2019.
