Interest in ITU Maritime Faculty soars post-2026 YKS results, with rising entry scores and rankings in Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering.
Surge in Popularity for ITU Maritime Faculty After YKS Results
Following the announcement of the results of the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), ITU Maritime Faculty has maintained its position among the educational institutions that university candidates show intense interest in. The increase in the base scores and success rankings in the faculty's undergraduate programs indicates a growing interest in the maritime profession.
This year, remarkable results were achieved in the Marine Transportation Engineering and Marine Engineering programs within the ITU Maritime Faculty.
The base score for the Marine Transportation Engineering program was 476.143, while the ceiling score reached 521.852. The program's entry success ranking continued its upward trend over the last five years, increasing by approximately 10% compared to 2025, reaching 39,344. The ceiling success ranking for the program was recorded at 6,502.
In the Marine Engineering program, the base score was 482.499, and the ceiling score was 519.019. The entry success ranking for the department also rose by approximately 15% compared to 2025, reaching 33,761. The ceiling success ranking for the program was recorded at 7,863.
“We are promoting both the profession and our school”
Evaluating the reasons for the rise in preference rankings at ITU Maritime Faculty, Prof. Dr. Özcan Arslan pointed out that the maritime profession is not sufficiently recognized by the public.
Arslan stated that the faculty has been conducting comprehensive promotional activities, participating in various fairs throughout the year and making numerous promotional visits to high schools.
He noted that approximately 15 high schools have visited the faculty as part of the promotional activities and that brochures have been sent to reach students in different cities of Anatolia. Arslan mentioned that during the preference and promotion period, faculty academics and graduates have collaborated, and graduates have also conducted promotional activities about maritime education and the faculty in their own cities.
Emphasizing that the promotional efforts are not limited to the academic staff, Arslan stated that graduates and students actively contribute to this process.
In this context, the ITU Maritime Faculty Alumni Association (İTÜDEFAMED) announced that it would provide a "welcome scholarship" to students who complete their departments with first place, while the Maritime Faculty Alumni Foundation (DEFAV) stated that it would offer accommodation and success scholarship support to students who gain admission to the faculty by ranking within the top 10,000.
Maritime education is transforming with technology
Recent preference data shows that ITU Maritime Faculty attracts students not only with its deep-rooted history but also with its educational and research capacity towards future maritime technologies.
With the technological transformation in the maritime sector, areas such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, autonomous ships, green transformation, alternative fuels, and energy efficiency are increasing the importance of educational programs.
ITU Maritime Faculty stands out among educational institutions adapting to this transformation with its academic staff, practical training infrastructure, simulators, laboratories, and close relationships with the industry.
In the Marine Engineering program, students benefit from the engine room simulator as well as laboratories for ship machinery, electrical-electronics, automatic control, and clean energy, strengthening the practical aspect of education.
