Report on loss of ship and crew to be published

The US Coast Guard will release the S.S. El Faro Marine Board of Investigation report on Oct. 1, 2017. This report identifies causal factors of the loss of the S.S. "El Faro" and its 33 crew members. The report proposes safety recommendations for future actions to the Commandant of the Coast Guard. The report may be accessed at: https://uscg.mil/foia/foia_library.asp on Oct. 1, 2017. Coast Guard standard procedure and 46 USC 63 requires this type of report to be done for all marine casualties under Coast Guard authority. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard with the full cooperation of the National Transportation Safety Board.
