Turkish Record at Asyaport: 22 Thousand 896 TEU Containers were Handled by a Single Ship
A Turkish record was broken by handling 22 thousand 896 TEU containers at the call of the container ship MSC Maya at Asyaport in Tekirdağ. This figure was the highest container handling operation performed at a single ship call in Turkey.
Asyaport Planning and Technical Services Manager Besim Dönmez stated that the previous Turkish record with the operation belonged to Asyaport and that 6 thousand TEU more containers were handled in the last operation than the previous record.
Dönmez stated that the result obtained shows Asyaport's operational capacity and the level it has reached on a global scale, and said that the handling volume of 22 thousand 896 TEU achieved in a single ship call is an important success for Türkiye.
It was reported that the second phase extension investment at Asyaport, which started in 2022, is planned to be completed in November 2026. With the completion of the investment, it is aimed to increase the docking area of the port to 2 thousand 800 meters and to enable three of the world's longest container ships to dock at the port at the same time.
The port's current annual handling capacity of 2.5 million TEU is planned to be increased to 4 million TEU. In this context, it was stated that the number of cranes serving large ships was increased to 15.
Stating that Asyaport has been planned as a regional main transit port since its establishment, Dönmez stated that the investments will provide more service exports, foreign currency income and employment to the Turkish economy. It was stated that Asyaport's long-term goal is to become the largest single port in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, in line with Turkey's strategic location.
