Recep Düzgit urges maturity and respect in the İMEAK Chamber elections, condemning recent criticisms of Cengiz Kaptanoğlu.
The candidacy of Recep Düzgit for the presidency of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping has issued a public announcement regarding the writings directed at Cengiz Kaptanoğlu ahead of the chamber elections to be held on October 11. Düzgit stated that the criticisms have exceeded acceptable limits and emphasized that their respect for the Kaptanoğlu family remains unchanged despite being on different lists, expressing that the election process should be completed with maturity, mutual respect, and a measured tone.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear colleagues, as the days draw closer to our chamber's elections on October 11, we have read with sadness the writings containing accusations against Mr. Cengiz Kaptanoğlu, the father of Mr. Şadan Kaptanoğlu, a candidate among us, which we absolutely do not endorse.
We respect the press's right to criticize and its freedom. However, the writings have crossed the boundaries of criticism. First, let us state clearly: we do not accept the writings regarding Mr. Cengiz Kaptanoğlu in any way. Mr. Cengiz Kaptanoğlu is one of our presidents who has contributed to our chamber. Mr. Şadan Kaptanoğlu is our colleague and peer with whom we have served in the sector under the same roof for many years. Our presence on different lists in this election does not change our respect.
On the other hand, we regret to see that the perception management and accusations suggesting that the published texts bind the institution or its members are deemed unjust and unacceptable. Such approaches aimed at creating unrest among professionals are met with disapproval. The official views of individuals are only contained in statements presented with authorized signatures and in face-to-face institutional contacts with members.
As our Chamber's Board Chairman, Mr. Tamer Kıran, emphasized during our member meeting on September 26, it is our collective responsibility to complete this election with maturity and mutual respect. Therefore, we do not accept any initiative that would cast a shadow over the election. Our tone will remain one of respect and moderation, as it has been until now.
