Workers at several Portuguese ports are on strike from midnight Monday until 8:00 a.m. Wednesday against new labour legislation with several vessels already diverted to Spain.

The vice president of the port and maritime union confederation (Fesmarpor) Vitor Dias said the industrial action would affect operations at most of the country’s main ports.

Although some ships may divert to Spain, others may main until the stoppage is over the Maritime Transport and Port Institute said. The reasons behind the strike are changes to the kind of tasks the workers do.
