PORTGUGAL's Port of Sines ended 2020 with a 13 per cent increase in container cargo compared to 2019

PORTGUGAL's Port of Sines ended 2020 with a 13 per cent increase in container cargo compared to 2019. The report is the third-best result in its history of container handling. Container cargo volume related to the hinterland represented 442,000 TEU, demonstrating the importance of Sines in the import and export flows of companies.

There was a one per cent liquid bulk segment increase, totalling 21.5 million tonnes. The dry bulk segment dropped 80 per cent due to the closure of coal-fired power plants, representing 2.5 million tonnes in 2020.

The Port of Sines closed 2020 with a total movement of 42,2 million tonnes at all port terminals.

January 2021 is expected to include the works of the first phase of expansion of the container terminal declared phase three by PSA-Sines. The expansion will include 804 metres of quays, 18 hectares of embankments and buildings.
