CONTAINER volume through the Port of New York and New Jersey increased four per cent in April from the previous month to 605,263 TEU. Port officials said April cargo growth was bolstered by a 9.1 per cent year-on-year increase in port containers. The port set a new March record for cargo handled by rail, as well, moving 58,877 containers, up 11 per cent compared with the year-ago period.
From January through April 2019, imports were up 5.1 per cent year on year to 1,203,674 TEU, which had a throughput of 1,145,006 TEU.
