OVERALL cargo volumes at the Port of Los Angeles fell 12.9 per cent in May compared to the same month last year mainly because of vessels shifting elsewhere.
Imports dropped 12 per cent to 326,114 TEU in May, while exports decreased 16.3 per cent to 154,004 TEU year on year.
Total loaded imports and exports for the month decreased 13.4 per cent to 481,019 TEU. Factoring in empties, which decreased 11.2 per cent year on year, overall May 2013 volumes dropped 12.9 per cent to 636,851 TEU.
