HONG Kong is home to many companies from Hamburg, Germany and the territory always played an important role for Hamburg.

The two cities have had trading relations since the early 19th century and many trading companies from the German port city maintain offices in the city to maintain their traditional role as a bridging and trading hub.

Speaking recently at the traditional Port of Hamburg cocktail function in Hong Kong, Dieter Lamle German consul-general to Hong Kong noted that China is Hamburg's most important trading partner by a long shot, with some 2.6 million TEU moving between them last year, and Hong Kong had a significant part to play in this, reports the Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.

The connection between the two ports was also highlighted by the Port of Hamburg CEO Axel Mattern, who welcomed guests to the event and thanked them for sharing in their mutual co-operation.
