Port Klang sets a new record with 15.14 million TEU in 2025, marking a 3.4% increase and solidifying its status as a top global container hub.
Port Klang handled a record 15.14 million TEU in 2025, the highest throughput since operations began in 1973, according to Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, as reported by Yahoo News.
The figure marked a 3.4 percent increase from 14.64 million TEU in 2024, reinforcing the port's position among the world's leading container hubs. Transshipment volumes rose 6.2 percent to 8.41 million TEU.
Mr. Loke announced the milestone during the launch of a new seven-storey annex building at the Port Klang Authority. Completed in October 2025 at a cost of MYR21.136 million (US$5.38 million), the facility houses the Vessel Traffic Management System operations room, a multipurpose hall, cafeteria, and modern office spaces.
Port Klang currently ranks among the world's top 10 container ports. For 2026, the port is targeting 15.37 million TEU, a 1.5 percent increase, supported by domestic growth and expansion in manufacturing, logistics, and trade.
Mr. Loke stated that several infrastructure projects are underway to sustain long-term growth, including the Westports 2 expansion, which will eventually lift capacity to 28 million TEU, and upgrades to Northport.
