Chemical tanker SAMPATIKI was attacked by 8 pirates early in the morning Mar 26. Pirates left the tanker after 4 hours onboard and took 5 crew members as hostages with them. Pirates held tanker under control for four hors, no doubt ransacking vessel and crew, and took five hostages with them. The rest of the crew unhurt, vessel resumed sailing and reached Lagos outer anchorage on Mar 27. Tanker was attacked in vicinity 04 20N 005 10E, some 30 nm off Bayelsa coast, while en route from Port Harcourt to Lube, Nigeria.
