Damaged pilot ladder caused accident
The pilot rose last Friday from the pilot transfer boat "Explorer" to the vessel "Aasnes" in Elbehafen Brunsbüttel. He fell backwards from the pilot ladder, fell about a meter into the depths and landed on the pilot transfer boat. From there he fell another two meters down to the main deck. In the accident, the man retired on his back, requiring hospitalization for three days.
In the estimation of the pilot, broken ropes of the pilot ladder were the cause of the accident. A visit to the ship could not be done by the police in retrospect, because the freighter is now in international waters.
The investigation into this matter takes over the water police station Brunsbüttel - the Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation and the Professional Association for Transport and Transport Economics were informed.
