PIL upgrades Imara Express service with two loops for direct India-East Africa connectivity, responding to rising trade demand.
Pacific International Lines (PIL) has enhanced its newly launched Imara Express (IMX) service with a butterfly network configuration featuring two dedicated loops, IM1 and IM2, to strengthen direct connectivity between India and East Africa.
The upgraded service will offer weekly direct calls to two major regional gateways – Mombasa, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – in response to rising trade demand along the India-East Africa corridor.
According to PIL, the revised network is designed to improve flexibility, expand cargo reach, and provide better access to regional markets. By leveraging the strengths of its consortium partners, the service is also expected to optimize vessel deployment while maintaining weekly frequency and broader coverage for customers moving cargo between India and East Africa.
Under the new structure, IM1 will serve Dar es Salaam on the Nhava Sheva–Mundra–Dar es Salaam–Nhava Sheva rotation, while IM2 will connect Mombasa through the Nhava Sheva–Mundra–Mombasa–Nhava Sheva loop. The first IM1 sailing is scheduled to depart Nhava Sheva on September 24, 2026, while IM2 will commence on September 23, 2026.
