    One man died and several others were injured in the morning of June 28, 2018, after a line from the 'Ansac Splendor' to the dock in Longview snapped in half

    One man died and several others were injured in the morning of June 28, 2018, after a line from the 'Ansac Splendor' to the dock in Longview snapped in half. The line recoiled and fatally struck ILWU member Byron Jacobs, 34. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The chief mate aboard the vessel was also struck and was in critical condition at Southwest Washington Medical Center. Another longshoreman and security guard also received non-life-threatening injuries. The ship remained docked at the Port's Berth 5.
