An oil spill at Belgium's Port of Antwerp has halted ship traffic, causing significant disruptions and prompting extensive cleanup efforts.

Ship traffic has been halted at the Port of Antwerp in Belgium due to an oil spill. The Port of Antwerp, which is the second largest port in Europe, issued a statement following the incident.

The statement noted, 'The oil spill that occurred at the container dock in Deurganckdock is causing significant disruptions at the Port of Antwerp.'

The statement indicated that the spill occurred during a refueling operation on a vessel. It was reported that the spill was contained quickly and that the ships involved have been brought under control as part of the cleanup efforts.

The statement also mentioned that access to the Port of Antwerp has been halted due to the spill, stating, 'Specialized vessels are actively working to clean up the spilled oil. Protecting our environment is our absolute priority. We are doing everything we can to minimize operational and ecological damage.'
