Oil spill after collision off Pasir Gudang
On Jan 3, 2017, at 11.50 p.m. the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was notified by the Johor Port Authority (JPA) of a collision between the "Wan Hai 301" and the "APL Denver" off Pasir Gudang Port. The master of the "APL Denver", which had left the port on Jan 2 at 10 a.m. bound to Hong Kong, reported that one of her bunker tanks sustained damage resulting in approximately 300 tonnes of oil spilling. The JPA has deployed four anti-pollution craft on site and an oil boom around the ship to contain the oil spill. The "APL Denver" returned to the Pasir Gudang Container Terminal on Jan 4 at 3 a.m., the "Wan Hai 301", which had come from Port Klang, berthed at the same terminal on Jan 3 at 5.30 p.m. In Singapore, some oil patches were spotted and have been contained off the western side of Pulau Ubin. The MPA has activated a total of eight anti-pollution craft with dispersant spraying capabilities to clean up the spilled oil.
