Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) officials issued an Animal Welfare Export Certificate (AWEC) Wednesday afternoon for a shipment of 4500 cattle to be transported from the Port of Napier to China. The holstein breeding dairy cattle are being transported on the Awassi Express, owned by Saudi businessman Hmood Alali Al-Khalaf . The officials said the certificate was issued following "an extensive assessment to ensure animal welfare requirements were met". The shipment should leave Wednesday evening and arrive in China in the next 15 days.
