NYK's low sulphur fuel additive boosts lubricity, prevents mouldTHE NYK group has developed a new additive, named Yunic750LS-F, to improve lubricity and prevent mould in low sulphur fuel mandated for use in emission control areas next month.
By improving lubricity the additive prevents abnormal friction and agglutination in fuel oil equipment, reducing equipment problems and enabling the equipment to run more safely, as well as contributing to improved operations.
Given that low-sulphur fuel oil will only be used in emission control areas, there is the possibility that it could be stored in the fuel oil tank for extended periods of time.
The anti-mould feature of this additive prevents mould caused by condensed water that can mix with the fuel oil, allowing for the long-term storage of fuel oil, a company statement said. Mould can cause blockages in fuel oil equipment.
