The auction for the stranded cargo ship 'Rapid' ended without bids, raising questions about its future amid ongoing legal proceedings.

An auction held for the Tanzanian-flagged bulk carrier 'Rapid,' which has been stranded and idle for a long time after running aground off the coast of the Kandıra district in Kocaeli, ended without a buyer.

The auction, conducted by the Kefken Port Authority under the provisions of the 618th Law on Ports and the 2886th State Tender Law, did not receive any bids for the vessel, which was put up for sale with a starting price of approximately 7 million 411 thousand 754 Turkish lira.

The 'Rapid,' a bulk carrier built in 1991, measures 81.07 meters in length and has a gross tonnage of 1,574. It ran aground on September 18, 2025, and has been idle in the vicinity of Kefken Island since November 14, 2025.

It has been reported that a decision regarding whether the vessel will be put up for auction again will be clarified in the coming days, and the possibility of its sale through enforcement as part of the ongoing legal process may also be considered.

On the other hand, in an auction held the same day by the Kocaeli Regional Port Authority, the Cameroonian-flagged bulk carrier 'Sefora,' which has been idle in the Hereke anchorage area since May 5, 2023, was sold to the only participating company for a starting price of 10 million 637 thousand 550 Turkish lira.
