CONSTRUCTION of the US$590 million Doraleh Multipurpose Port (DMP) at the Port of Djibouti is expected to be finished by the end of March when the 690 hectare facility will feature four separate terminals for handling containers, ro/ro, breakbulk and bulk.

The new port recently took delivery of two quay cranes, 12 portal cranes and two rail-mounted gantry (RMG) cranes all manufactured by the Chinese ZPMC. DMP is also equipped with eight rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes manufactured by the Chinese equipment company XCMG, reported Container Management.

Upon completion of the project, which is being jointly financed by Djibouti Port SA (DPSA) and China Merchant Holding (CMHC), DMP will feature a total of 15 berths with a length of 1,200 metres and a water depth of 16-18 metres.
